Biodiversity - Red Lists

A red list is a decision-making tool that allows the identification of threatened species by comparing, using criteria defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the evolution of populations over time. The red list therefore makes it possible to assess their risk of extinction on the basis of a combination of two criteria: A population decline by measuring a decrease in one or more indicators of population size, frequency or distribution, a limited or very limited population size or number, which even without showing a decline, significantly increases the risk of extinction. The results thus make it possible to assign each species a threat status that reflects its probability of extinction in the short and medium term in order to identify species that require priority conservation and restoration measures.
